Talking with Catholics about the Gospel

As an evangelical Protestant, I’ve often wondered how I can share the faith that means so much to me with Catholic family and friends, without confronting, offending, or confusing them. This book, Talking with Catholics about the Gospel: A Guide for Evangelicals, provides a short, accessible introduction to the basic theologies of both Catholics and Protestants and offers practical tips for engaging Catholics in religious conversation with respect and love but without compromising the foundational tenets of one’s faith.

Psalm 15: At Home In Me

O LORD, who is worthy to host your holy Presence?

In whose body-temple do You feel comfortable and at home?

Come, reshape my life

and make a fitting abode for Yourself.

Wash away the soil and sin that offends You

and separates me from your holiness.

to my stockpile of memories and the past I can’t let go.

Sweep away the sticky cobwebs and dirt debris

of grudges and regrets,

the sting of words spoken against me

and the harm I’ve done but cannot undo.

Blow through this stagnation of old life

and make room for the new life you bring

fresh to me every morning.

The Anointed One: Book II in Trilogy of Kings Saga

This second volume in the Trilogy of Kings Saga follows the rise of Israel’s first king and the emergence of Israel as a monarchy. Through a fictional account that closely follows the biblical record, the story details the life of Saul, a humble farmer from the tribe of Benjamin who reluctantly accepts the crown when the people demand a king. As the anointed one of Yahweh, Saul at first feels the empowerment and wisdom of God’s Spirit as he takes up the mantle of leadership and saves his people through heroic deeds. Pride, however, gradually usurps his pledge to serve Yahweh.

Letters from My Father’s Murderer

Laurie Coombs was an unmarried college student when her father was murdered, shot twice by a jealous husband. In her book, Letters from My Father’s Murderer, Laurie recounts her journey, first on her own and then as a follower of Christ, from shock and outrage, through periods of depression, anger, and despair, and eventually into a forgiveness that healed both her own broken heart and the heart of the man she viewed as her enemy.

Iscariot: A Novel of Judas

Iscariot is a fictional account of events that led to Judas Iscariot’s notorious betrayal of Jesus and his subsequent suicide. I chose the book because I was curious to learn what the author had to say about a famous figure of history whose personal story is nevertheless scanty and wide open to speculation. The story is told in first-person narrative, so it is easy to slip into the skin of Judas the child, the ambitious youth, the love-starved disciple, and ultimately the catalytic figure who made possible the arrest and trial of Jesus the Nazarene.
